Engages and educates residents and communities on wildfire mitigation and preparedness strategies to improve wildfire resilience in the built environment.
- Plans, prepares, and coordinates individual home and community wildfire assessments.
- Conveys accurate wildfire risk and mitigation guidance in different wildland fuel types across Jefferson County.
- Engages and motivates communities to encourage resident participation in parcel level wildfire risk assessments.
- Utilizes assessment technology and supporting preparedness materials to deliver a comprehensive parcel level risk assessment report.
- Identifies, conveys, and prioritizes methods and options for home hardening and vegetation management strategies to prevent and reduce structural ignition.
- Provides technical guidance and options for home hardening, creating defensible space, and fire-resistant landscaping techniques.
- Guides residents and communities towards related funding sources as appropriate.
- Educates residents and communities on national, regional, and local level community centered programs such as Firewise USA®, Fire Adapted Communities (FAC) and FACO Neighborhood Ambassador.
- Assists with the development, preparation, and delivery of educational materials and presentations to homeowner and community groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position involves working outside year-round, walking over potentially steep terrain.
Required:
- NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certification required within 2-year of hire
