Our Divisions

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is organized into five divisions, each playing a vital role in keeping our community safe.

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the largest division, providing 24/7 law enforcement services to unincorporated Jefferson County. Deputies respond to calls for service, conduct proactive patrols, and are often the first point of contact between the community and the Sheriff’s Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • • Emergency and non-emergency response
  • • Traffic enforcement and accident investigation
  • • Community-oriented policing
  • • SWAT, K-9, and search & rescue teams
  • • School resource officers

Criminal Investigations Division

Detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division handle complex cases from initial follow-up through prosecution. The division includes specialized units that partner with federal and multi-agency task forces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • • Major crimes and homicide investigation
  • • Special victims and child exploitation cases
  • • Cold case review and resolution
  • • Crime scene processing and forensics
  • • DEA and multi-agency task force participation

Detention Services Division

Detention Services operates the Jefferson County Detention Facility, one of the largest county jails in Colorado. The division is responsible for the safe and secure custody of inmates and offers programs aimed at reducing recidivism.

  • • Court security and inmate transportation
  • • Rehabilitative and reentry programs
  • • Work release and community corrections

Strategic Services Division

Strategic Services manages the business operations that keep the Sheriff’s Office running. The division oversees budgeting, grants, fleet management for 310+ vehicles, supplies, and maintenance of over 440,000 square feet of facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • • Budget administration and grant management
  • • Fleet management (310+ vehicles)
  • • Facilities maintenance (440,000+ sq ft)
  • • Supply and waste services
  • • Information technology and records
  • • Strategic planning and accreditation

Support Services Division

Support Services provides the training, recruiting, and community engagement programs that sustain the organization. The division ensures deputies are well-prepared and that the community has a voice in public safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • • Recruiting, hiring, and background investigations
  • • In-service and specialized training
  • • Internal affairs and professional standards
  • • Public information and community outreach
  • • Volunteer and youth programs
