Detention Programs

The Jefferson County Detention Facility provides programs that support inmate education, physical well-being, work skills, and facility safety.

Available Programs

Detention Counselors

Detention Counselors provide inmates with resources and support while in custody to help navigate current challenges. They also provide reentry resources, connecting inmates with sober living facilities or other community providers prior to release. In certain modules, counselors provide skills-based groups.

Behavioral Health Services

Jail Based Behavioral Health Services (JBBS) is a state funded program offering treatment for substance abuse and mental health concerns. Community partners provide individual and group therapy as well as case management assistance for enrolled clients. This is a voluntary program designed to decrease recidivism.

Inmate Education

Inmates are provided educational material, vocational assessment, and work skills training. The Jefferson County Detentions Division partners with Edovo to provide tablet-based access to classes and courses. Through this program, users have access to over 25,000 hours of educational programming in the following categories:

Online classes prepare students for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) and the General Education Development (GED) exam, covering math, science, social studies, and language arts.

Community volunteer tutors also provide one-on-one support in GED and basic skills. These activities programs aim to prevent the inmate's return to jail following release and provide expanded opportunities outside the facility.

The Jefferson County Detentions Division coordinates with Jefferson County Public Schools to ensure that the school district is in compliance with Colorado's House Bill 24-1216.

Religious Programming

Religious programming is provided by Chaplain volunteers who lead bible study and Celebrate Recovery groups. In some cases, inmates can request one on one religious services.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous volunteers provide regular groups in direct supervision modules.

Inmate Recreation

The Detention Facility Recreation Unit coordinates all inmate recreation activities. In accordance with ACA accreditation standards, each inmate is provided a minimum of one hour of daily exercise outside their cell, and outdoors when weather permits.

Inmate Work

Some inmates are allowed to work inside the jail and around the county government campus in exchange for "good time" (time off their sentences).

Outdoor Assignments

  • • Campus landscaping and maintenance
  • • Rose garden upkeep
  • • Road crew (litter removal from Jefferson County roadsides)

Work Release

The Jefferson County Detention Facility contracts with Intervention Community Corrections Services (ICCS) to provide alternative sentencing through work release, authorized under CRS 18-1.3-106.

Facility Safety

The Detention Facility maintains a comprehensive safety program overseen by an assigned deputy and a full-time maintenance supervisor.
