About Victim Services

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Victim Services Unit provides comprehensive support to victims of crime throughout the investigation process and beyond. Our mission is to reduce the trauma experienced by crime victims through compassionate, professional advocacy.

Volunteer Victim Advocates are essential members of our team, providing 24/7 crisis intervention and support to victims and their families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

What You'll Do

Crisis Intervention

Provide immediate emotional support and crisis counseling to victims at crime scenes, hospitals, and other locations.

Agency Liaison

Serve as a bridge between victims and law enforcement, helping navigate the criminal justice system.

Rights Notification

Inform victims of their rights under Colorado law and assist with Crime Victim Compensation applications.

Resource Referral

Connect victims with community resources including counseling, shelter services, and support groups.

Follow-Up Support

Provide ongoing support through phone calls and check-ins as victims work through the recovery process.

Court Accompaniment

Accompany victims to court proceedings and provide support throughout the legal process when needed.

Requirements & Training

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Pass comprehensive background check
  • Complete 40-hour training academy
  • Complete ride-along observation hours
  • Commit to minimum 2 shifts per month
  • Available for evening and weekend shifts
  • Valid Colorado driver's license

  • Colorado victim rights laws
  • Domestic violence dynamics
  • Sexual assault response
  • Death notification procedures
  • Self-care and secondary trauma
