- Provides structured fitness programming for personnel as appropriate. Conducts group and individual fitness training sessions, workshops, and assessments. Educates personnel on proper exercise techniques, injury prevention, mobility, recovery, and nutrition fundamentals, and tracks outcomes related to performance, injuries, and participation.
- Monitors fitness data, trends, and participation while maintaining confidentiality. Assists in developing and maintaining fitness-related policies and procedures. Ensures programs comply with agency standards, labor agreements, and legal considerations. Prepares reports, program evaluations, and presentations for command staff.
- Develops and implements a periodized physical fitness program that prepares recruits to meet or exceed academy graduation requirements and the physical demands of law enforcement service. The program emphasizes cardiovascular endurance, strength, functional movement, agility, resilience, and recovery while accommodating varying fitness levels. Oversees academy recruit physical conditioning programs in coordination with academy staff.
- Designs and constructs comprehensive law enforcement academy physical training curricula aligned with law enforcement job standards. Facilitates instructor scheduling based on subject-matter expertise and operational availability to ensure consistent, high-quality training delivery. Provides indirect supervision and trains instructors, field training officers, and peer fitness trainers as designated. This position is responsible for training and managing groups of several recruits simultaneously, ensuring proper technique, progressive conditioning, injury prevention, and accountability.
- Works collaboratively with command staff, the training unit, and peer support teams, regarding reintegration of employees back to full duty. Assists in return-to-work or modified duty fitness plans when applicable. Develops injury reduction and resilience programs.
- Manages fitness facilities, equipment selection, maintenance, and safety standards ensuring compliance with County risk management, safety, and liability guidelines.
- Identifies grant opportunities and work with the JCSO Business Office to complete applications. Responsible for operational reporting of the grant activity.

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Physical Education, or a related field.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Nationally recognized strength and conditioning certification (e.g., CSCS, NSCA-CPT, ACSM, NASM) at hire.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Prior law enforcement, military, or public safety experience.
- Experience working with police academies or in-service training environments.
- Certifications in tactical strength and conditioning, injury prevention, or wellness coaching.
- Experience designing and implementing fitness programs for tactical, law enforcement, military, or public safety populations.
- Knowledge of law enforcement physical demands, injury patterns, and operational requirements.
- Strong communication, instructional, and interpersonal skills.
