In-Custody Death

Jefferson County, CO. – Just after 4:15 a.m. on May 13, 2026, during routine cell checks, a deputy found inmate Jolene Dorothea Mathiesen unresponsive in her bunk. CPR was initiated and Narcan was administered by deputies and responding medical staff. Golden Fire and EMS arrived and continued lifesaving efforts which were unsuccessful. Mathiesen was pronounced deceased at 4:56 a.m.

Mathiesen (dob 12/4/80) was brought to the Jefferson County Detention Facility on May 11 by the Lakewood Police Department for a probation violation related to child abuse charges. 

The First Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is conducting the investigation. The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
